Another week comes and goes. So what's happened?
My Honours Project finally kicked off in earnest with my first meeting of the new session with Yaji. It lasted about 1h 20m and following this, I now have a better understanding of what I'm doing, a little about how I'm doing it and most importantly about how I'm going to write the report for the project. I now have the source codes and data to look over the coming week, which will improve my understanding as well.
I went shooting yesterday and completed the 4th and 5th rounds of the league. I dropped 5 points in total, but this still brings my average over the 5 rounds to 98.2, marginally up from the 98.1 I achieved last year. Hopefully this will be enough to keep me in Division 1. At least one of the dropped points was due to background noise causing a distraction but it's something I'll have to get used to in preparation for the Nationals in Wolverhampton in March. I can't imagine 30+ rifles going off simultaneously would be what one would call quiet!
My trusty Sennheiser PX250 headphones finally bit the dust after nearly two and a half years and a fair bit of mileage under their cups. One of the wires in the cord where it meets the jack must have snapped, as I only get sound through the right ear and need to precariously jiggle the cord in just the right way to get it in stereo. Ali offered to splice a new cord/jack onto the end and I might take him up on that, but I've also ordered some new phones in for trial. You'll just have to wait to hear about those, as I'm not spilling the beans just yet. I also lost patience with the SmartAX modem connected to mum's broadband line. If you remember, I had no end of trouble setting it up last year and now it's required a reboot four times in the last week. Also, the interface is awkward to see so all in all I think it's best if I get a new modem - a Linksys one of course!
The
Lyrics section now has two new songs. The 'Emily' one is one I wrote for someone whose friend is going stateside for a few months. I'm told she liked it a lot, which is quite flattering as I'm not too happy with it myself. The other is my own inspiration but is still under development. Take a look if you like and perhaps let me know what you think.
I'm going to have to start being a little more careful with my cell phone use as I've somehow managed to use more than half my credit allowance within the first 10 days of the billing cycle and need to keep the rest in case of emergencies. So if it's anything that might need me to call back, drop me an e-mail as I can then reply more quickly and besides, data is as good as free.
For those who put stock in it, I hope you had a great Valentine's Day yesterday. I went out for lunch with mum (it's been a while since we did that) after she took me on a tour of the new bus station here (there's still lots of construction work going on and I'd rather not do the whole falling into holes in the ground act again!). A couple of friends of mine didn't for various reasons, and all I can say is that anyone who'd deliberately try to ruin another's life on a day meant to be filled with joy and love - well that's just cheap and selfish. What would it have hurt to wait until the day after? I really don't understand these people. In case you do, please enlighten me.
That's it for the time being. BTW, if anyone knows why LJ.NET is suddenly causing line breaks to well, break, please let me know. Just look at the French song a couple of entries back to see what I mean. Cheers, take care, and have a wonderful weekend.
