Been a while since I posted a tech tip, so here goes. Maybe you already know it, but I found a way to download all those cool videos off
YouTube, but it also works for other networks, Google and such.
You need the
VideoDownloader plugin for
Firefox. Install it and you'll find a new icon on the status bar on the bottom right of the screen. Then, when your chosen video starts playing, you simply click on the VideoDownloader icon, a window pops up and you click the buton next to the format you want to download the video in (depending on what formats are available -
YouTube is typically .flv - I'm coming to that). The video file then downloads as normal to your chosen location on your computer.
Now that's all very well, but the .flv formatted videos from
YouTube will not typically be playable on your computer without a little help. So go and grab yourself the
FLV Player, install it and you'll be able to view your vids.
But, there's more. Wouldn't it be nice to have these pesky FLV's as AVI's? You can. Grab the
Prism Video Converter and use that.
So, we have your online videos, we can play them and we can convert them. Not bad for a few minutes searching, typing and uploading? Oh, and to get you started, check out
Americans are NOT stupid!.
Enjoy!
